This 13 Sided Himalayan Smoky Rutile Vogel Wand by David Zhuang is 5.6 inches long and weighs 196 grams or 6.9 ounces. This wand has a very comfortable fit in the hand for a lightworker or meditator. It has a very nice feel to it, well-proportioned, slim, and tapering to a definitive point. The finish is exquisite!

It's difficult to see in our pictures but there is a small mica like highly reflective inclusion in the shaft where it meets the male termination tip, along with a smattering of small thin silvery rutile filaments.

The female termination tip of this Vogel Phi crystal looks like a small pyramid, because this wand was cut to mimic the proportions of the Great Pyramid at Giza, which is thought to be a mammoth antenna and amplifier for Universal Life Force Energy, built with Phi ratio proportionality.

Properties of Rutilated Quartz

This rutilated crystal contains needle-like inclusions of titanium inside it. Rutile is a titanium ore. Titanium is used in high tech and aerospace alloys because it’s a lightweight super-conductor of electrical energy, exhibits great tensile strength and resists corrosion.

Rutilated quartz crystals have a high-energy charge, which is particularly effective in releasing energy blockages. For energy healing, rutillated quartz can be placed near the navel and around any area where the energy feels sluggish. Compared to other forms of quartz, rutilated quartz has a greatly enhanced ability to help dissolve any energy congestion.

Rutilated quartz pendants, in my experience, when worn or carried on the person, act as a stimulant to the nervous system and the etheric body.

Mineralogical and Metaphysical Properties of Smoky Quartz

Mineralogists say there may be more than one cause for the gray to brown to black color range of this very popular form of quartz crystal, ranging from sodium to other minerals in the crystal, including: the presence of trivalent titanium; the presence of carbon compounds; or the presence of sodium.

Most mainstream mineralogists believe that the characteristic dark brown to black color of smoky quartz is produced when clear quartz is exposed to natural radiation emanating from radioactive rocks in the same geological formation where the quartz crystals form and grow. The current scientific hypothesis is that when clear quartz is exposed to radiation, the radiation alters the oxidation states of mineral impurities found within the quartz structure, resulting in smoky quartz.

“The frequent occurrence of smoky quartz in association with rare earth and radioactive minerals is very significant, for later it will be indicated that smoky quartz may have been colored through the action of radioactive elements,” says the University of Michigan’s Edward F. Holden, in a 1925 article inThe American Mineralogist. “In Ontario smoky quartz is a constant associate of radioactive minerals, and the same association is frequent in Madagascar. Enormous smoky quartz crystals occur in the well known radioactive pegmatite of Baringer Hill, Texas.”

“The evidence given thus far is in agreement with the theory that smoky quartz owes its color to atoms of silicon, formed by the disintegration of silica, through the action of radium radiations,” Holden continues. “The mechanism of the formation of the free silicon may perhaps be pictured in this way: The radiations may remove the four outer electrons from a silicon atom, which would then be equally shared by the two associated oxygen atoms. As a result, two free oxygen atoms and a free silicon atom would be formed. They could take no part in the crystal structure since their attractive force for other atoms would have been destroyed. Hence, they should act as small inclusions, the silicon atoms producing the light-scattering and the color so characteristic of smoky quartz. We would expect the silicon atoms to be most effective in scattering light because of their greater atomic weight, and the possibility of the escape of the oxygen atoms.”

From this scientific analysis it is clear that smoky quartz, although quite likely formed through the action of radioactive elements, is not radioactive itself, and this perfectly natural process is not detrimental to the crystals or to human beings utilizing these crystals for ornamentation, in meditation, for crystal healing, or for any other purpose.

Properties of the 13 Sided Vogel Wand

The 13 sided Vogel wand resonates with a mysterious energy that derives from the numerological properties of the sacred number thirteen. 

Often considered an unlucky number by the uninitiated, 13 is a prime number, complete unto itself. It can only be divided evenly by 1 and 13. Prime number based algorithms are the basis for encryption systems such as RSA (Rivest-Shamir-Adleman), which is the method for securing most messaging and financial transactions on the Internet today.

Ancient astrologers considered the number 13 to symbolize the vast and mysterious realms of the Universe beyond the stars visible in the plane of the ecliptic, where we see the 12 signs of the Zodiac displayed in the night skies.

Marcel Vogel worked for IBM for 27 years doing research and development. He helped develop the magnetic coating for IBM’s disc drive, which acts as the storage unit for a computer's memory, he created the first liquid crystal displays, or LCDs. 

From his experimental work with crystals, Vogel learned that by pointing a crystal at another person, the crystal would amplify the person’s thoughts and emotions. You'll find Marcel Vogel's instructions for using crystals for healing and meditation in the book along with a lot of other very important information for all metaphysical rockhounds.

Vogel believed that the most important thing to remember in working with faceted crystals for healing is that the purpose of the faceting should be to amplify and transmit an increasingly coherent stream of energy to a subject.

Marcel Vogel sought to use the power of science and of the lapidary arts to perfect crystalline forms of nature in order to maximize their potential for receiving, amplifying and transmitting Universal Life Force Energy charged with the intent to heal and with the force of love. Vogel cut his crystals to harmonize with the natural quartz structure to enhance the energetic properties of the wand for healing purposes, and the result is also aesthetically pleasing.

Some hexagonal quartz crystal wands occur naturally with six more or less equilateral sides and more or less equal triangular termination facets.

Energy healers discovered that these six sided wands amplifed the energy being transmitted by the wand when the termination facets on the female end created a more obtuse angle and when the termination facets on the male end created a more acute angle. 

In a naturally formed quartz crystal of somewhat irregular shape and symmetry, the energy within the crystal tends to move through the crystal in a less directed way than the Vogel style cuts.

But when a crystal had a very definite symmetry, especially the hexagonal symmetry, then the energy gathers in the larger, receptive end of the crystal, and if directed by a knowledgeable human hand, travels in a series of tighter and tighter concentric circles around the interior of the crystal, and down into the tip of the male end of the crystal, where it would be emitted as a much more coherent stream of energy. 

Energy healers also discovered that when the sharp male tip of the healing wand is congruent with the C-axis of the crystal, exactly centered within the circle formed when you look head-on at the male end of the crystal, this made the energetic flow stronger and more coherent.

Marcel Vogel's healing wands were refined artistic versions of this well-known type of hexagonal natural healing wand, known for millennia to energy healers worldwide.

According to Marcel Vogel's written specifications for Vogel healing wands, good Vogel wands should have precisely equal facets on the shaft and tips; good clarity, preferably 90% or more; a well-defined C-axis that runs parallel to the shaft; and termination tips centered in the very middle of the shaft. The male and female terminations should be sharp, and the male should be more acute than the female. The female termination should be larger than the male tip.

The male termination tip of this gorgeous Vogel healing wand is fashioned to form an extremely sharp tip designed to maximize the coherence and strength of energy streaming from the wand, while the female termination tip was cut a little wider, to maximize the area available for input of Universal Life Force energy from Source, and particularly from the palm chakra of the crystal healing practitioner.

As the prana spirals down the shaft of the wand, the energy stream is amplifed every time it encounters a facet on the shaft. The super-charged energy stream coalesces at the male end of the wand, and is emitted as a highly coherent laser-like beam for use in meditation, vibrational healing and subtle communications.
