Description

Blue Lake Girl was shot at Lake Minnewaska in the State Park near New Paltz, New York. Lake Minnewaska is a startling blue color, due in part to the high tannin content imparted by the abundance of hemlock and chestnut trees in the Shawangunk Mountains.

These grand old-growth trees were decimated by early settlers in the Hudson Valley who used the tannin for tanning beaver pelts, which were highly prized at the time, but significant stands of these tannin-rich hardwood beauties still remain in the Gunks, especially in Minnewaska State Park, among the prevailing pitch-pine.

The tannin rich water in the lake is what gives this photo its clarity, its unique range of vibrant blues and its special vitality. I felt my whole aura charged with the ancient power of the surrounding forest, the sun and the mystical blue water at the time.

Long before there were 'selfies' I shot this self portrait one hot summer day.

Offered in a limited edition of 250 signed copies, this photograph is printed on 11" x 8.5" archival matte paper which gives it a beautiful depth and richness of tone. Ready to frame.
