This stunning aromatherapy vial is a hand made glass artwork created by the very talented Karen Bye. Constructed with a cork covered stopper, so that the essential oil "wicks" up the cork, you can smell the essential oil as it is being worn, without opening the lid. The aromatherapy vial comes equipped with a 'split ring' (like a keychain ring) so that it can easily be fitted to wear with a chain, which is not included here. The design is so clever, that you can have the therapeutic effect and the fragrance of the essential oil you choose to work with in an aromatherapy diffuser tool which appears to be a little glass jewel!!

This piece was inspired by the coloring of watermelon tourmaline, a big favorite of many of Satya Center's crystal lovers & artists alike.

Included with each vial is:

-A tiny plastic dropper so you can easily fill the vial

-Both a Sterling Silver and a Gold-filled split ring (sort of like a keyring shape, only tiny) so you can connect the vial to a chain you already own, and you can chose either gold or silver, your preference.

-A chain is NOT INCLUDED with this vessel.

-A sweet little gift box

-Instructions on filling the vial

Note: Actual weight is .35 oz.

Some of my favorite high grade essential oil suppliers are listed below:

Dreaming Earth

Elizabeth Van Buren

Flower Essence Services

Mountain Rose Herbs

Note from Karen: "The weak aspect of these aromatherapy designs is in the organic material of each individually fitted cork stopper, as some essential oils are corrosive. If you have any problem with the cork, or would like to change the essential oil you have in the vial, and discover the cork has absorbed too much of the original essential oil, please send the entire vial back to me. I will replace the cork and mail the vial back to you. Enjoy!"

Mineralogical and Metaphysical Properties of Tourmaline

Tourmaline is the name given to a family of minerals forming hard, slender vertically striated prismatic crystals, often hexagonal, trigonal or rhombohedral in shape, with a high specific gravity, classified as complex aluminum borosilicate. Tourmaline is an igneous mineral that commonly forms in granites and granitic pegmatites.

Like quartz, tourmaline crystals will generate an electrical charge when pressure is applied in the direction of the vertical axis. This is called piezoelectricity. In addition, some tourmaline will generate an electrical charge when heated.

Tourmaline is the birthstone for the month of October and the Zodiacal sign of Libra. In ancient Hindu tradition, the tourmaline is a stone of motivation, which impels the wearer toward the good, and a "teller" stone that gives insight in times of duress and can identify sources of distress in the wearer's environment.

Shamanic practitioners in African, Native American and Aboriginal tribes have used tourmaline for centuries to provide protection from physical danger and to amplify healing powers.

Common tourmaline is black, and the lighter colors, such as blue and light green, are much more rare. The colors in the stones are created by the presence of various metallic ions such as iron, titanium, chromium, and others. The various colors of tourmaline are associated with the seven primary chakras within the human aura.

Watermelon tourmaline is an extremely rare multi-colored gemstone with a blue-green rind and a reddish-pink core. This particular specimen also has amazing apple-green highlights on the termination tip.

Metaphysically speaking, green tourmaline is an excellent stone used to open the heart chakra, imparting a feeling of love, peace, serenity & deep compassion for all living beings. Green tourmaline, also known as a Brazilian Emerald, is associated with the heart chakra. Green tourmaline helps us to see with the heart, to combine a masculine strength with compassionate creativity, and to facilitate the study and practice of agriculture and herbalism for nurturing and healing. Wear this color to help when communicating with devas and nature spirits. In addition, green tourmaline is said to help connect the heart with the third eye, facilitating clairvoyance and fostering a deep experience of Unity with Universal Creation.

Blue tourmaline is associated with the throat chakra, and assists the bearer in connecting with his or her own individual truth and destiny, in communicating their own personal truth to others, and in achieving success in all endeavors related to mass communication.

In addition, blue-green tourmaline assists the bearer in opening the doorways to spiritual worlds, and to connecting with Higher Mind and Higher Self, facilitating inner conversation with one's own Personal Guardian Angel.

Rubellite or Red Tourmaline, relating to the astrological sign of Scorpio & Sagittarius, is associated with the root chakra, and helps ground and center the bearer, assisting in the overcoming of paranoia, low self-worth, and feelings of alienation. Red tourmaline exhibits a magnificent ruby violet shade and resonates with the heart and base chakras, assisting in grounding the energies of love & devotion. It can intensify any loving practices whether directed toward ones own health or in the spiritual practices of devotion.
