Description

Here is a picture of the mixed media piece entitled Daisies. (The photo above is a detail.) This wax piece is somewhat delicate, featuring dried yellow heliopsis flowers set into bleached beeswax, with impressed bronze powder lettering.

The lettering, which reads "Divide to propagate", has oxidized, imparting a green patina to some of the lettering.

One of the things that most interests me in this series of mixed media work, which could also be called ephemeral art, is the way that it changes over time. Impermanence is a primary characteristic of all existence in the material universe, as all spiritual teachings from Buddhism to Christianity to Wicca have always emphasized.

The ongoing transformation of all beings and objects that exist, brought about by continuous interactions with the surrounding web of life, characterizes both physical reality and the subtle evolution of the human psyche. These transformations are the only permanent feature of reality, and are exemplified by the transmigration of souls, and the reality of life beyond death.

Daisies

The transformations of the materials in this piece have an alchemical character, and illustrate how even seemingly "dead" matter undergoes permutations that alter the symbolic and chemical composition of the elements involved.

Media: cedar shingle, bleached beeswax, copper nails, heliopsis flowers and bronze powder.

This piece evokes these ancient memories and crystallizes this ancient source of wisdom and shakti for today's world.

You can see the shot on this page of a group of these mixed media wax shadow boxes and icons. They look good either one at a time or in a group like this.

Contact me if you're interested in purchasing a selection of these pieces. I'm happy to discuss it and make an arrangement suitable to your needs.
