New Poetry Winter 2004-05

She follows the sound of a waterfall
down through the redwoods
to a stone bowl

where the stream gathers
before leaping.

Spinning there in the spool, a snake
with tail in its mouth.
As the hooped form turns, it twists: green
above, orange below.

She has found a wedding ring

binding eternity
with time.
