Herb tinctures are made seasonally as needed. Bottles are 1 fl. oz. glass bottles with glass droppers and are either in amber or blue glass to protect tinctures from light.
Herbal Tinctures are combinations of whole herb plants, (root, stem, flower, leaf and/or seeds) harvested optimally and quickly processed after harvesting, then preserved in a menstruum, most frequently alcohol. The mix of alcohol and water draws many medicinal and mineral constituents out of the herbs into the liquid making a powerful tincture. Tinctures are generally taken 10-30 drops in water, juice or tea for dosage strength. Tinctures are very handy to use when traveling or when you desire an extra boost beyond herbal teas. Jane's Homemade uses biodynamic grape alcohol for some tinctures, or brandy or vodka. Grape alcohol has the added benefit of the many healing properties of the grape plant.*
Herbalists around the world agree that freshly dried herbal teas retain vitamins and minerals and vital energies. Herbal Tinctures are concentrated forms of plants and are the second best method for taking herbs. (Herbal Tinctures have a shelf life usually of up to 10 years or more).
