This beautiful & mysterious Chrome Green Diopside Faceted Gemstone small 'wand' has a beautiful deep emerald green coloration. It has a highly defined termination seen here in the faceted end in the right side of the photo. Diopside is calcium magnesium silicate with a hardness of 5-6 and comes in colors which range from white or colorless to greenish or greyish, black or brown, with a vitreous luster. Deposits are found in Burma, Madagascar, SriLanka, South Africa & the US. Transparent Gem Quality Diopside has been found in Italy & other European countries as well as North America & Siberia. The name is from the Greek prefix 'di', meaning two and 'opisis' meaning appearance "in allusion to the fact that crystals of diopside commonly occur with two sets of prism faces that appear to be similar" according to The National Audobon Society Field Guide to Rocks & Minerals. Although many gemstones are prized for their water clarity, diopside gems can become more beautiful with the right kind of inclusions. Here's why. Found in magma bearing rock formations or metamorphic rocks, diopside varies in color, depending upon the type of fibrous inclusions the stone has collected over time. Common colors of diopside include: bright green (chromium inclusions), green, brown, to black (hematite inclusions), and purple (manganese inclusions). These fibrous mineral inclusions not only give the diopside a distinctive color, they also create a special quality highly prized by mineral collectors and gemologists. Metaphysically, this stone enhances physical and mental strength, is very calming & assists in gently connecting to the heart chakra & emotional body.
