This type of opal is from Australia & comes direct from an Australian Opal company. We recently spotted these lovelies at a gem & crystal show & grabbed the nicest of the lot. We're glad we did too, because as we kept asking our suppliers for opals, we noticed the price had gone through the roof! We're quite pleased to offer these treasures at a reasonable price!
The word opal comes from the Sanskrit word "upala", meaning "precious stone," and the later Greek word "opallios", meaning "to see a change of color."
The opal is the birthstone of those born in the dazzling month of October, when autumn brings a riot of colors to the forests of the Northern Hemisphere. The mysterious color play on the opal's surface has rendered this gemstone a highly prized collector's item for millennia in both Eastern and Western cultures. The word opal comes from the Sanskrit word "upala", meaning "precious stone," and the later Greek word "opallios", meaning "to see a change of color."
Opals are hard, very light and somewhat fragile gemstones composed of micro-spheroids of hydrous silica, and is never found in crystalline form, but rather in small veins, globules or crusts in rock formations. When these tiny microscopic spheres stack in an orderly fashion, forming a complex latticework structure, the play of light refracted through the latticework creates the various beautiful colors we associate with the opal. The size of the spheres and the cavities within the latticework determines the color spectrum that the opal exhibits to the naked eye.
When opals are exposed to the air, they can lose water, and even become filled with tiny fractures, so many gemologists recommend bathing these precious stones from time to time.
Opal is a stone of visions, a stone to promote lucid dreaming, and a stone prized by artists and creative people to stimulate the imagination and trigger inspiration. Native American shamans and Australian aboriginal medicine men use opals to stimulate clairvoyant visions, to obtain meaningful dreams foretelling future events, and to connect with the "dreamtime", the state of Unity consciousness that transcends the space-time continuum as we know it.
Opal is known as a stone of successful relationships, and has been used traditionally as an expression of unconditional love, as the love of a mother for her daughter, and also to promote steadfast fidelity in love relationships between the sexes.
The fire within the opal is said to stimulate the inner fire of the bearer, helping to activate the kundalini energy which is said to reside in the root chakra, and which, when activated, rises to the crown of the head, triggering a variety of mystical experiences. Thus white rainbow opal is said to stimulate the crown chakra and to enhance our connection with Higher Mind, Higher Self and with Spiritual guidance originating in Higher Worlds.
Apatite has a mid range hardness of 5, it has hexagonal crystals which frequently appear prismatic, sometimes tabular & can be granular to compact & stalactitic. It is a phosphorous bearing mineral developing in igneous & metamorphic rocks, present in North America, Germany, Spain & is even found in marble deposits in Ontairo Canada.
The colors of Apatite range from green, brown, red, yellow, violet, pink, white and colorless with a vitreous appearance. It's name comes from the Greek word apate, meaning "deceit" because of the close resemblance & confusion with several other minerals such as aquamarine, olivine & flourite.
According to Melody in her encyclopedic work "Love is in the Earth", apatite can assist in the development of clairvoyant, clairaudient and clairsentient abilities; assisting in integrating & balancing the emotional, intellectual, physical and etheric bodies. It can be of assistance in any humanitarian pursuits with assistance in "the expansion of knowledge and in the disclosure of the 'truth to freedom'".
She further states that apatite has been used as an appetite suppressant & can be used at "the physical level to focus healing energy on the systems, glands, meridians, and organs of the body".
I certainly cannot attest to that, but I can say that after a meditation session with Apatite, that I feel really good, strong & connected.
