Tarot

Curtis began his study of the Tarot more than thirty years ago, at age sixteen, under the guidance of Dr. Thomas McEvilley, Professor of Art History at Rice University, renowned international art scholar, and expert in comparative mythology.

Curtis learned Tarot as a system enabling the initiate to determine future probabilities rather than to foresee future events, an exercise in phenomenology rather than divination, similar to the interpretation of dreams in psychoanalysis. To further his work with the cards, Curtis studied Kabbalistic Tarot, the neo-Platonic numerological system of Marsilio Ficino, sacred geometry, and the correspondences between traditional yogic systems of spiritual development, Western alchemy, and the Tarot of the mystery schools.

To the student of the esoteric Tarot, the cards offer an opportunity to track probable futures in order to see the most likely outcomes of unfolding present situations. Tarot also provides the psycho-spiritual tools to enable us to change our own future in a positive way.

Over time, Curtis has come to believe that the cards provide us with accurate insights concerning our spiritual health and well-being as well as the concrete particulars of our day to day life.

Curtis taught Jane this esoteric form of Tarot in 1980, when they first met, through a series of coincidences, and Jane has practiced Tarot as an intuitive since that time, for herself and others.

Curtis has given thousands of Tarot readings from Texas to New York to the Virgin Islands over the years, and continues to this day to find new insights working with the cards.

Curtis has written a feature article, "Tarot: The Yoga of the West", recounting a recent dream encounter with a group of  spiritual Adepts in a medieval monastery. This story reveals many of the correspondences between traditional Yogic systems of spiritual development and Western alchemy. This spiritual interpretation of the Tarot as as system for the subordination of the ego to the Higher Self and for ultimate Self-Realization of Cosmic Consciousness is seldom found in mainstream Tarot literature, and offers many keys to spiritual aspirants on both Western and Eastern paths of development and study.
