Asia Times Online

(HK) A Hong Kong based Internet-only publication that reports and examines global geopolitical, political, economic and business issues from an Asian perspective; this distinguishes ATO from the mainstream English-language media, whose reporting on Asian matters is generally by Westerners, for Westerners. Check out the War on Terrorism archive for no-holds-barred investigative journalism that examines the root causes of the current global conflict. ATO editors say, “ By July-August 2001, it was clear that something dramatic was about to happen. Pepe Escobar, our "Roving Eye", was traveling in Afghanistan and the tribal areas of Pakistan. The rumor was that US forces were about to use Pakistan to launch a raid into Afghanistan. Escobar's article, published by Asia Times Online on August 30, 2001, was headlined  Get Osama! Now! Or else ... Our Karachi correspondent, Syed Saleem Shazad, was meanwhile filing articles like Osama bin Laden: The thorn in Pakistan's flesh (August 22, 2001) ...” ATO’s reporting on the war on terror has been consistently ahead of the curve ever since, deeper than the mainstream American media and full of insights obvious to those closer to the South Asian and Middle Eastern origins of the conflict than America’s “embedded” and co-opted reporters.

CNN
