The Trager® Approach

The TRAGER Approach uses gentle, pleasurable bodywork and movement to facilitate deep relaxation, increase physical mobility and promote neuromuscular integration. A session takes from 1 to 1 1/2 hours. No oils or lotions are used. The receiving person may be partially or fully clothed and lies on a well-padded table in a warm comfortable environment.  The practitioner gently moves the person's body in such a way that the person  experiences the possibility of  being able to move that freely, effortlessly on their own. When tightness or resistance is felt, the practitioner actually works more lightly to help the person recall the feeling of what it was like before it was tight.

As part of your private session you will receive instruction in the use of self-care movements called Mentastics®. These simple effortless movements help people create for themselves the same feelings awakened  by the tablework. Integrating Mentastics into your daily life will allow you to enhance, remind, and recall feelings of ease, freedom, flexibility and joy.

The TRAGER Approach often achieves excellent results for people with a wide range of conditions, such as everyday aches and pains, poor posture, limited movement, normal aging processes and muscle tension from stress. Benefits of a Trager session are cumulative, with subsequent sessions allowing for deeper and longer lasting change. David maintains a private practice in Lancaster, Pa. and is a frequent visitor to the Hudson Valley/Berkshire area. Please call David at 717-397-9007 or email him at david@enjoymovement.com for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Qigong and Tai Chi

Qigong (pronounced “chee-gung”), is an ancient Chinese discipline that emphasizes breathing, meditation, stationary poses and movement. Its purpose is to enhance the flow of energy, or chi (sometimes spelled "qi") throughout the body. The combination of breath and sensory awareness, relaxation techniques and exercises is said to build chi and tone muscles, increase circulation and improve well being.

Tai Chi is an advanced form of Qigong that involves moving in a flowing, continuous manner from one posture to the next resembling swimming gracefully through the air. Although originally practiced as a martial art, it is now widely practiced for its health enriching benefits.

Qigong and Tai Chi increase balance both physically and emotionally, improve circulation, reduce excessive stress and tension, lessen anxiety and improve posture and flexibility. The following are signs of ample chi or qi: feeling rested, energetic, happy/peaceful, little or no pain, and good stamina.

David has been teaching various forms and styles for nearly 30 years to classes and individuals. Please call, write or check out his website.

Twenty Minute Body/Mind Routine-Tai Chi & Qigong for Busy People

The Twenty Minute Routine is an easy to learn and, most importantly, easy to maintain daily program for essential self-care. The routine integrates gentle movement from Tai Chi and Qigong, self-applied massage, breathing, and meditation and contains the essential movements necessary for a healthy body. It begins with a warm up to reduce the major knots of tension followed by six simple yet powerful Qigong and Tai Chi movements to balance your energy and concludes with a seated self-massage and meditation creating an inner smile and sense of well being. By practicing the routine you will be able to release at will any negativity and recharge your nervous system with an abundance of energy. You will learn how to relax instantly, maintain beneficial posture, motivate yourself to practice daily and personalize the routine to fit your schedule. The routine is simple enough for beginners yet providing depth for even experienced practitioners

The entire routine is often learned in a 4-hr. workshop. It can also be learned in 4 classes once a week. Please call David for a listing of his current classes. Contact him also if you would like to offer the class at your work or service location.

About David

As a practitioner of Tai Chi & Qigong for over 30 years  David Haines has introduced hundreds of people to the practice of Tai Chi, Qigong, meditation and stress management. He teaches the Twenty Minute Body/Mind Routine in wellness programs of hospitals, schools, corporations, and retirement communities and is recognized for his ability to communicate to others the skill of relaxed, effortless movement.

He has been a practitioner of the Trager® Approach since 1985. Early on he had the opportunity to study with the late Dr. Milton Trager. His continuing work in Trager has allowed him to study reflex response, an advanced form of neuromuscular re-education, as well as positional release work. David often works with referrals from the medical and psychological community in working with trauma, sexual abuse and fibromyalgia. His work with sexual abuse is discussed in the book "THE DEEPEST WOUND  How a Journey to El Salvador Led to Healing from Mother-Daughter Incest" by Linda Crockett.

As a result of his hands-on knowledge of how the unconscious expresses itself through the body, he brings a unique understanding of how the mind and body work together.

To schedule an appointment, inquire about his teaching schedule, order a DVD or get more information, please contact David at 518-851-7952 or send an email to david@enjoymovement.com
