Mayan Prophecies Interpreted: The Return of The Ancestors Gathering

The Crucial Time is 2010 -- The Shift of Ages is NOW!!
Everyone is talking about 2012, with many non-fiction books on the shelves of the mainstream chain bookstores having 2012 in the title, and movies, videos, and fictional novels that have 2012 in the titles. Apparently “2012” sells.
 Until relatively recently, the Mayan Elders have been silent about December 21, 2012 and the meaning of their prophecies, but that has been changing since these Elders are saying WE can influence the events leading up to this date, so they are trying to educate and inform the public about this date and their calendars.
The Return of the Ancestors (ROTA) Gathering was sponsored by the Institute of Cultural Awareness (ICA) and held in Northern Arizona, April 18-28, 2009. Indigenous Elders from around the world came together in Arizona to share their ceremonies, wisdom, and prophecies.
This was the fourth such Gathering organized by Mayan Elder Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj to fulfill Mayan prophecies (Guatemala in 1995; Columbia in 1997; and Nambe Pueblo, New Mexico in 1999). There are 440 Mayan tribes and each tribe is represented on the Mayan Council of Elders, with Don Alejandro the elected President of the Council, as well as head of the Confederation of Indigenous Elders of America.
ROTA was attended by roughly four groups: invited Elders, volunteers that helped keep things running smoothly, the general public, and a small handful of ICA personnel, headed by Adam Yellowbird. If there was one main outcome from the ROTA, it was the thought/ belief/ experience that WE ARE ONE, despite differences in ceremonies, languages, or other individual forms of expression of the One.
Another Mayan Elder and member of the Mayan Council of Elders that has been asked by his Elders to share the Mayan prophecies is Carlos Barrios, author of the book “The Book of Destiny: Unlocking the Secrets of the Ancient Mayans and the Prophecies of 2012”. This book is a superb reference on this topic from a Mayan Elder.

The Maya’s principal concern is living in harmony with nature.
For the Maya, the date of December 21, 2012, marks the beginning of the Fifth Sun, which is the start of a new consciousness, a time when a new socioeconomic order will arise in harmony with Mother Earth.
This date will not be the end of the world or the end of humanity, but will be the start of a Golden Age, a period in which harmony, understanding, peace and wisdom can reign.
However, the Maya also say that unless we can find a balance between materialism and spirituality, a large part of humanity will disappear in the years leading up to 2012.
There will be a period that they call “the purification” that will end in September 2010, which will be followed by a period called “the definition” or “the cleansing” from September 2010 to December 20, 2012.
In this period, all of the garbage in our minds and all of our consumerism will be cleared away and replaced with a true spirituality and respect for ourselves, everyone else, and everything else on the planet.
The reality is that we all need each other and our differences create balance.
We must become one people, one nation where respect for the individual reigns, no one is excluded, and nothing is imposed.
 The oppressive, punishing forms of spirituality will disappear because the truth will be in each one of us.
The Hopi are saying: We are the ones we have been waiting for.
